“We think sometimes that poverty is only being hungry, naked and homeless. The poverty of being
unwanted, unloved and uncared for is the greatest poverty.” – Mother Teresa

The elimination of poverty is the number one gaol of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. This in tandem with zero hunger, good health and well-being, gender equality and quality education
goals.

Economic prosperity is only part of the solution.

The facts speak for themselves. More than 700 million people, or one-in-ten of all the people on this
earth, still live in extreme poverty today, struggling to access the most basic needs of health, education, clean water and sanitation. The economic fallout from the global COVID 19 pandemic could increase this by as much as half a billion people, the first increase globally in thirty years.

The negative effects of poverty and deprivation on the one-in-five five children who live in extreme poverty in their early years, will have ramifications that will last a lifetime.

How can we help? These issues are not new. They have been addressed before. By sharing new approaches and the best of the old WICMI wants to contribute positively to ending poverty and deprivation in all its forms.

Together we can make a difference.
